Biography

Elizabeth Goldhammer Kuhn was an experienced seamstress and quilter when she entered a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program at Kent State University in 1986 to learn more about color. Building on credits earned in previous degrees at the University of Oregon (BS in Education, 1964) and Florida State University (MS in Education, Reading Specialist, 1972) she earned a BFA degree in Crafts, with an emphasis in Weaving from Kent State University in 1992 and an MFA in 2000. Her weaving teacher was Janice Lessman-Moss.  

Liz maintains a studio in Kent, Ohio.  She is shown here working on Barred (1999).

Jurors have distinguished her works with the Handweavers Guild of America Award (Fiber Celebrated 97, Fort Collins, CO), Juror's Choice Award (Fiberart International '95, Pittsburgh, PA), Award (Twelfth Annual Greater Midwest International, Warrensburg, MO, 1997), Second Prize (Fiberart International '93, Pittsburgh, PA), Interweave Press Award (Fiber Celebrated '93, Las Vegas, NV), and several honorable mentions. 

Photographs and mentions of her work have appeared in several professional publications, including Fiberarts, American Craft, Handwoven, Surface Design, and Fiberarts Design Books Five, Six, and Seven. She was commissioned by the City of Chicago to do a weaving for the McKinley Park Library in 1994.
